Jia Ba Bue is a creative organization of architects and designers based in San Francisco and Boston. Our name comes from a Taiwanese saying, an everyday question that carries care, closeness, and an instinctive understanding between people. It reflects a sensibility rooted in intuition, an idea central to how we approach design.
We believe architecture begins with feeling. Our work is guided by the senses, shaping spaces that are quiet, elemental, and grounded. Rather than relying on overt formal gestures, we focus on the subtle relationships between light, material, atmosphere, and movement. Through these elements, architecture becomes something experienced rather than simply seen.
Each project develops through a careful and intuitive process. We study how light moves through a room, how materials age with time, and how spaces shape the rhythms of everyday life. The result is architecture that reveals itself gradually, spaces that invite occupation, discovery, and reflection.
For us, architecture is not only a matter of form or function.
It is something felt.
